You're invited...
from the peanut gallery to the stage.
The most incredible days of your life or career may be just ahead of you.
But you will never find out if you don’t ask this question today:
“What are you capable of?”
Here’s what happened when I asked myself this question:
The Journey
Over my 19 years in IT leadership, I’ve had seasons of success and seasons of stuck. Some of those times, I’ve hired coaches to move beyond striving and into thriving. But overall, I was content climbing the IT career ladder.
Then I read Beyond High Performance in late 2023. It introduced the concept of Meta Performance — going beyond High Performance: where you ask yourself “How can I be the best?” to Meta Performance: where you ask yourself “What am I capable of?”
Cue the record scratch. This single question altered my thinking, my leadership, and my life trajectory in irreversible ways. First, it catalyzed my leadership and infused new purpose into every team project, company quarterly/annual planning exercise, and every one-on-one with my team.
Second, it removed the invisible ceiling created by my experience and expertise, allowing me to explore “What could I be capable of?” beyond the boundaries of my IT leadership seats. Curiosity replaced contentment and I wanted more as the trajectory of my life shifted by a few degrees.
I spent 2024 becoming equipped to coach individuals and teams through the Seven Primal Questions framework for personal and professional growth, integrating these concepts into several contexts, transforming every team and relationship it touched.
Relationships built in that cohort connected me to the Meta Performance Institute’s one-day training in Chicago in August 2025 where I experienced another recalibration of my life’s direction, developed new relationships, and intensified my curiosity.
In January this year, I officially joined the Meta Performance Institute’s coaching cohort because every interaction I have with them kindles a passion in my bone marrow to see people dream bigger and overcome the invisible hurdles between them and the life they dream about.
With that, I launched my own full-time coaching practice.
The disruption of asking myself the question “What are you capable of?” has fundamentally changed the way I relate to my own vision. It’s no longer a weekend side hustle or a someday project. My vision is no longer something I can escape. The question also altered the way I related to my IT career seats; I can no longer stay in roles that can’t support growth. Asking that question has taken me on a thrilling adventure beyond horizons and into territories I would not have considered before. And I’m nowhere near the end of that discovery. Armed with the power of that question, any situation is now an invitation to greater potential.
My Vision
I’ve long known that my personal purpose is to maximize potential: catalyzing people and projects toward what they’re actually capable of, creating beauty, value, and impact in the world. This thread has been present since as early as I can remember and continues to this day, influencing nearly every aspect of my life.
For the last few months, I have been writing on Substack to explore these ideas, but I haven’t directly shared where all this is leading.
Here’s my larger vision.
As a full-time meta performance coach, my vision is to see leaders taking ownership of creating unique impact in the world. I’m on a mission to share this transformative experience with others through coaching that helps visionaries steward and release powerful visions, and challenges experts to become leaders, living unconstrained.
I want to coach you into the person you need to be to accomplish the dreams and visions that only you contain. I believe in people with vision, and I believe in the power of sharing that vision with the world.
In Walden; or, Life in the Woods, Henry David Thoreau said “The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation.” He’s speaking to the gap felt by people who are living under social or societal expectations they never consciously chose, versus people who intentionally choose to live on purpose, outside of the social architecture of the Modern Life Machine that produces unconscious despair.
It’s 2026 and the world continues changing rapidly, opening opportunities for despair that many people didn’t anticipate. I’m disappointed when I pick up strains of despair woven through watercooler conversations, or see the responses to news headlines, or hear complaints about how AI is revamping org structures or job markets.
But I’m more encouraged and hopeful in each of these situations. Each scenario is an opportunity for anyone to ask: “What am I capable of?” Choosing hope takes effort, and the willingness to exert effort comes from having a clear and powerful vision that moves you out of the peanut gallery and onto the stage.
Your Invitation
You’ve been answering “what am I capable of“ with the same answer for years. In fact, the answer lives in your daily decisions, your ceiling for ambition, and the roles you consider and the ones you don’t.
What if your answer is out of date?
What if your answer is more familiar than it is true?
The antidote to toxic cultures or burned out organizations is a healthy, growing person: you. Healthy, growing people create stronger families, friendships, communities, and organizations.
Whether you’re peering over the last rung on the corporate ladder, or whether you can’t sustain the pace playing in society’s race, the next chapter doesn’t have to be exhaustion, complacency, or burnout. The answer can simply be changing the question for your life.
You’re invited…into your future. The conversation I’m inviting you into isn’t a sales pitch; it’s the conversation in which this question stops being rhetorical for you.
I’m Aaron Ott, a meta performance coach, and I would love for you to experience the transformation and energy created by asking and exploring the question for yourself:
What are you capable of?
